  Most have the decency to stand down in cases like this

  NO WAY! Whilst some may 'stand down', most hang on to their positions as if their life depended on it. Many who 'stand down' were actually pushed, but resign to save face.

  Congrats. I listened to the first JC and thought the main elder was a total jerk. I especially liked the bit where he basically told you he was gonna DF you, then said he needed to pray, and you asked WHY since you already made up your mind. He sounded SO STUPID as he backtracked. Now I am waiting for you to post part 3.

  Also, what's this about a lawyer -- please tell us more about that. He was allowed to be with you? or what?

  Once again, congratulations on beating the system for now, although ultimately they will get rid of you for sure.

  The U.S. Supreme Court declined to take up the case, meaning that Cardinal Roger Mahony will have to hand over to Los Angeles prosecutors the records of all communications regarding the two priests.
  
  The Los Angeles archdiocese has fought one of the most vigorous battle in the United States to prevent the files of priests accused of abuse from being made public.
  
  The Survivor's Network of those Abused by Priests criticized Mahony's tactics, saying Monday he had ''spent hundreds of thousands of dollars, donated by generous Catholics, on far-fetched and increasingly unsuccessful legal maneuvers to keep hidden the secrets about abusive priests and complicit bishops.''
  
  The abuse scandal erupted in Boston in 2002 and spread to almost every Catholic diocese in the nation. Scores of dioceses have already released personal files of implicated priests and many have reached multimillion dollar settlements with victims.
  
  Monday's ruling effectively upheld a lower court order that 14 documents in the files of two priests should be made available to a Los Angeles grand jury.
  
  It also paved the way for the release of confidential records sought by more than 500 people who have brought civil lawsuits against the archdiocese. By some estimates, the Los Angeles archdiocese could face a possible total settlement of $1 billion.
  
  The archdiocese said in a statement that Monday's decision was ''disappointing,'' noting that it was working on efforts to settle civil cases through mediation.
  
  In a statement, Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley said the ruling was ''a decisive victory'' for local victims of clerical abuse.
  
  'The U.S. Supreme Court's denial to review this matter establishes an important principle that evidence of criminality be made available to appropriate authorities,' Cooley said.

  This case has major ramifications for the WT Org., which has always refused to release papers related to Judicial Committees to the authorities unless directly compelled to by law. This policy has resulted in accusations of cover-ups, especially in relation to child abuse cases. The new established principle is that evidence of criminality must be made available to the appropriate authorities, and religions cannot claim a confidentiality exemption.

  Sorry the door is open to everyone the last time I was there

  The WT do like 'interested ones' to attend, but it is not true that the door is open to all. Kingdom Halls are private places, not public, and the body of Elders can deny access to anyone they want. On occasion that's what they do.

  As for the contents being for the public, the outline is designed that way. However, the speaker will usually treat the talk as a larger 'Instruction Talk'. This is because he knows that 99.9 pecent of the time there will be no members of the public in attendance. He is usually preaching to the converted, and soon slips into 'theocratic speech', so much so that a genuine member of the public will not understand. 'faithful and discrete slave'? what the f... is that? (Actually the rank and file don't know the official answer to that one!).

  Here We Go Again: The Annual ``Behave! at Conventions" Harangue

  now that the gerontocrats have dispensed with their annual springtime campaign of blustering everyone away from the wine and bread, it's now time to for the yearly decalogue of decorum; an epistle to the clueless.. in the april kingdom ministry the old farts tackle their annual chore of getting their dubbies to somehow behave like normal, thoughtful human beings when let loose on the public away from their kingdom halls.. what do we find on page 5?

  ``reminders" to the rabble not to save seats; not to leave the premises during the noon lunch break, nor to bring booze or large coolers; to tip at least 15% to 20% when dining at restaurants.

  this, i believe is a first; they now feel they have to coach jws on just how much is considered apopropriate by ``worldly" (read ``normal") human beings.

  They get LOTS of negative feedback. It always used to surprise me how many ignored the advice they get every year. I was always one of the irritated pedantics who obeyed and then got upset to discover I was the only one following the KM insert.

  Now I am out of it and so much more relaxed. People were just using their own mind, while I was trying hard to sacrifice mine in the vain opinion that it pleased God to listen to the GB and what they told me to put in my sandwiches. (I remember one year they even suggested bringing oranges)

  they burst in at the height of the service, when the symbols were being passed, kanin, the spokesman of the jehovahs witnesses in russia said, referring to the bread and wine used to symbolize jesus christs body and blood.

  they wouldnt even allow them to finish the ceremony.

  there was nothing secretive going on there.

  Any government that tries to suppress religion, especially JW's, are doing more harm than good. JW's will see it as persecution that confirms they are the right religion. BUT, let people worship freely and the numbers of followers tapers off, even falls. That's what happened in Poland and many eastern European countries.

  I don't agree with the Org. and feel it does a lot of harm. This sort of action is not the answer.

  it won't screw up the statistics - not everyone who partakes is counted, only the ones the elders can vouch for as being witnesses in good standing.

  You cannot be Gay and a Jehovah's Witness, it's not allowed.

  I am not sure what you are looking for. You are obviously going through a difficult emotional experience as you try to work out your inner feelings. Is that why you are looking for religion? To help you define yourself? If it is, be careful. Many religions, including JW's, seek to force whatever opinions they have on you.

  How secure are the GB?

  i was thinking today, how secure are the governing body?

  with all the hatred they have created over the years it wouldnt take much to send someone over the top and try to "exterminate" the ones who they feel are responsible for maybe a ruined marriage or life.. i cetainly wouldnt want to be in their shoes.

  but i wounder how they feel, do you think they feel secure and safe.

  I feel kinda sorry for them really cos they're so mis-guided and have dedicated their whole lives to a lie.

  These poor misguided fools have ruined thousands of lives! I don't feel sorry for them, the are having their reward now in full.
